Primland is a beautiful boutique resort nestled within the Blue Ridge Mountains with 12,000 acres of views and endless activities that make it feel like ‘adult summer camp’. From ATVs and horseback riding to archery and golf, there is truly something for each guest to enjoy. A night under the stars, on the other hand, is a definite must-do for everyone.
The Observatory is a “wow” factor experience and a reason to come to Primland. Lauren (our star guide) took us on an adventure through galaxies, black holes, and her thoughts on life on another planet. She even shared with us her favorite star. Such a special experience but what makes this resort exceptional is its people and Lauren brought the sky to life for us.
The RTV tour was the ideal way to start the day. They drive exactly like a car, through tiny rivers and up rocks and hills. I followed our guide for two hours and we stopped at an incredible vantage point, but nothing matches seeing the baby bears climbing up the trees!
Despite that fact that I haven’t been riding in years, I was so excited to get the chance to go trail riding with Champ, it was such a highlight. The guided ride took us through some forested areas leading to an open meadow where the horses could trot (if you want). 1 hour is the perfect ride for a leisurely experience and 2 hours is ideal if you’re looking for a leg workout.
Tip: I’d recommend scheduling a spa day next, you’ve earned it right?
My new favorite thing about a spa day is the relaxation room. After my signature massage I spent an hour enjoying this space with tea and hummingbirds zipping by the windows. This space along with steam room, pool and jacuzzi is the perfect wellness day. Did I mention the massage beds were heated?!
Just as there is something to-do for everyone at Primland, there is also somewhere unique for everyone to stay. Looking for a romantic stay? Consider the celestial suite below the Observatory with a spiral staircase leading to a lofted bedroom with 360 degree views. Or my personal favorite, retreat to the treehouses and stay in your private home with a treehouse deck jetting out over the mountains. Families? You can stay in the cottages with several connecting room options and a spacious living room to gather in. It’s safe to stay, no matter where you stay the views are incredible and the solitude of the resort feels like a breath of fresh air. But what good is a luxury stay without food and wine? The newest dining option – the Schlumberger Wine Cellar is not just stunning and perfect for private events or holiday celebrations – It’s filled with varietals from around the world but primarily from the owners winery, located in the Alsace region of France. The farm-to-table meal was wonderfully balanced with a wine pairing for each course. So, in addition to the locally sourced peach sorbet, we also had French-inspired accents throughout the meal. Besides the wine cellar experience, the family-style barbeque was excellent – even to my southern standards.
Tip: At the pub order the fried saltines and pimento cheese (shockingly good!)
When a resort serves as a destination in itself, standards are high as you’re likely to stay on the property for the entire stay. After my visit, I can say the food, activities, and staff were above and beyond. You feel at home here. We’ve heard about quiet luxury in the fashion industry, but this resort introduces it into travel.
