There are no crowds, busy streets, or even street lights. Lana’i actually seemed like what Hawaii used to be before tourists discovered it. Arrive by ferry (from Maui) or fly to the Lana’i Air private lounge. This resort is a haven of unrivaled luxury with personalized service. From the moment you step onto the resort’s grounds, you are enveloped in an atmosphere of serenity, with every detail thoughtfully constructed to exceed your expectations.
The resort’s design seamlessly blends with its natural surroundings, showcasing the island’s beauty. Lush gardens, cascading waterfalls, and tranquil koi ponds create a sense of harmony and tranquility. The private beach is a short walk away with chairs, umbrellas, and the beach service has the best frozen Kona milkshake. Go early in the day for calmer waves (especially if you want to jump in the tidal pools). You can do a hike to Sweetheart Rock on your own or daily guided options are available.
Ready to explore? Choose your own adventure: horseback riding, golfing, or take a yoga class overlooking the ocean. My favorite? The on-site observatory.
The pools are gorgeous, with separate options for families and adults. Around 5 p.m., head to the pool for a cocktail and the evening torch lighting.
One of the most beautiful rooms I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in. Each guest room and suite is thoughtfully appointed with the finest amenities, offering panoramic views of the ocean or the resort’s enchanting gardens. Unwind in spacious living areas, rejuvenate in luxurious bathrooms, and embrace the tranquility of your private balcony or terrace.
Our beautiful lanai had the perfect lounge chairs to sit outside each night with a glass of wine. A highlight of our stay was listening to the crashing waves and stargazing from the room. The lack of city lights make the stars amazing!! The main difference between the rooms is where they are located and, therefore, their view. (Room Tour)

Award-winning restaurants showcase fresh, locally sourced ingredients, expertly crafted into delectable dishes that reflect the island’s diverse culinary heritage. The poolside option (like my arugala pizza) and breakfast portions the size of my 6-month old were equally praise worthy. One Forty for breakfast had the most amazing view, the Rock Shrimp Bowl was so good I ordered it twice.
You can’t miss an evening at Nobu Lana’i. If you are traveling with kids or staying in an ocean view room, room service is quite an experience in itself. Enjoying Mai Tai’s outside on our lanai just felt like one of those special moments.
If you are looking for a slightly remote and rural island with peaceful beaches, hiking trails, and star-filled evenings, Lana’i is for you!
