Fun fact: In Hawaiian mythology, it was demigod Māui who lifted the Hawaiian Islands from the depths of the sea by lassoing the sun from the island’s highest peak, Haleakalā, bringing daylight to the islanders.

When to Visit

The weather in Maui is warm and pleasant all year, so there is simply no bad time to visit. But our favorite months to visit are April/May and September/October, when there are fewer visitors, the weather is nice, and it’s a little less expensive to travel during this off-season period. Most importantly, the ocean temperature is always between 75 to 80 degrees, so you can enjoy the beach anytime you visit.

Wailea

Wailea is South Maui, with the most sunshine, a beautiful beach and exclusive feel.

Four Seasons Maui 

Hands down, best service on the island!! This world-renowned resort is nestled on 15 acres of the breathtaking Wailea Coast.

Though it feels very tranquil, it’s also more of an upbeat vibe that attracts young couples, friends, babymoons, and families. Complimentary resort services outside many in-room amenities include poolside snacks, pool cabanas, and outrigger canoeing!

The adults-only Serenity Pool was one of my favorite spots on the island. A stunning infinity pool with a swim up bar and the most spectacular views of the West Maui mountains and pacific ocean.  

Start your day with Duo’s breakfast buffet – I promise you the chocolate chip pancakes will be the best of your life!! Do not miss the gorgeous oceanside dinner at Ferraro’s.

Fairmont Kea Lani

An all suite and villa resort so space is never an issue at Fairmont Kea Lani. From the moment you arrive, the open air design makes it so you never have to be indoors. “Kea Lani” means heavenly whiteness and the resort looks like a white palace with a middle eastern design.  

Only my fellow family travelers understand the gift it is to travel with the ability to fully divide your space from the kids. We were able to walk out the back patio onto our lanai, order room service, enjoy the sunset, and still remain close by. Ask me about the newly renovated villas if looking for 2-3 bedroom options with beachfront views and a private pool.  

Polo beach is calm and secluded, surrounded by lava rocks. Stroll through the resort’s lush tropical gardens or enjoy the 140-foot water slide, which seemed equally popular for the kids and adults.

Kapalua

In West Maui, this award winning beach has a plethora of activities, from snorkeling and boogie boarding to a zip-line tour. It also neighbors a golf course, and is the starting point of the Kapalua Coastal Trail. Expect short rain showers and a slightly cooler climate. Kapalua is known to be a golfer’s heaven and has Maui’s only oceanside hole!

• West side of Maui (55 minutes from the airport) 
• Known for its stunning scenery, championship golf courses, and upscale resorts
• Less crowded than Wailea, preferred for a serene and secluded stay

Montage Kapalua 

Montage is just steps away from Kapalua Bay, one of America’s favorite beaches. 50 residential-style apartments ranging from one to four bedrooms, each with its own private “lanai,” or balcony. This Resort is perfect for families who want some extra room in their accommodations and the kind of place you could easily spend and entire vacation. The multi-tiered lagoon pool is stunning and the center of the resort, cascading down to beachfront views.

Cane & Canoe features fresh seafood and breathtaking views but you’re also in walking distance of Merrimans, perfect for a special occasion with next level cocktails and sunset views – don’t skip dessert.

Ritz Carlton Kapalua

Expect fully-renovated guest rooms and suites. I was most excited about the about fire lanai rooms. Each room featured extended lanais with a fire pit complete with a special menu to make one’s own tropical twist on s’mores! The multi-tiered pool is the center of the resort with adults-only and kids pool options. With 466 rooms, the property offers variety of dining, and daily activities. Be sure to enjoy alfresco shakes, burgers, and cocktails at the Burger Shack!
